august

A U G U S T

who had a good august?
(i'm raising my hand.)

even though summer was good to us,
i've secretly been more excited for this fall than ever before.
is it because i'm finally not in school? yes.
is it because football has started? yes.
is it because sweatshirt weather is coming? yes.
is it because ski season is one month closer now? yes.

there are too many reasons why fall wins the battle of the seasons.

but here's a little glimpse of our august...
sorry in advance for the long string of photos. buckle up.

twenty six

my blue-eyed boy is now

T W E N T Y  S I X

...and he is also starting to think this blog should be called "me and my blue-eyed man."
but i still like "boy." sorry honey.

if you know me well, you already know that august 21st is one of my favorite days of the year.
ever since meeting bry, i realized how much i love planning birthday surprises and spoiling him rotten.

for last year's birthday surprises, click here.
(that book of our love story is still one of my favorite things we own.)

i had to sleep most of his birthday since i worked a night shift the night before, so i sent him off to work with a present to be opened every hour of the day. most were little things...church socks, biking gear, new school clothes, treats, a song i wrote for him, etc...

that night, after i spoke for an induction ceremony at the U, i had a date night planned for him where we re-enacted our very first date which happened just about exactly three years ago from that day...  night golf with glow-in-the-dark golf balls on bonneville golf course.

the next day, we headed up to one of my cabins on the weber river.

bry had actually never been to this cabin, and i was so excited to finally take him.

i honestly could've set up camp on the back porch
and hibernated there through this winter. i love that place so much.

here's a short video of our weekend adventures.

t w e n t y s i x from Meg Miles on Vimeo.

another happy year for my favorite guy.
here are some things i adore about him right now:

i love him for singing around our house.

i love him for choosing to be happy every day.

i love him for his perfect smile.

i love him for the way he treats all women with respect.

i love him for being everyone's friend.

i love him for his  a m a z i n g  french toast he makes me.

i love him for always going on adventures with me.

i love him for carrying me to bed just about every night.

i love him for texting or calling me during work to make sure i'm happy.

i love him for his hard work.

i love his love for God.

happy  t w e n t y  s i x  bryson nelson miles.

wonder

w o n d e r
by r.j. palacio

this is a

must read.

i finished it in 5 hours.

end of story.

this story is about a boy named August (Auggie), who was born with facial deformities. it tells of his experience going into 5th grade at Beecher Prep, a public school, for the first time.

you'll cry. you'll laugh. i definitely recommend it-
if you're looking for a feel-good quick read, this is the one.
and it's only $11.19 at target right now.

this week i'm working on "Get a Financial Life: Personal Finance in your Twenties and Thirties"
by Beth Kobliner... liking it so far and learning a ton.

get yourself a library card and go read!

big sky montana

B I G  S K Y
is one of the greatest places on earth.

our cabin, on hebgen lake, is nothing short of a skiers paradise.

i decided not to make a video of the trip this year, but if you want to see an oldie, click here or here. this year we had a smaller group, and i missed my blue-eyed boy, but it still was another magical trip. beach volleyball, slalom skiing, a lake of glass, movies at the cabin, paddle-boarding, aeroleaf huckleberry+almond ice cream in town, mosquito bites, tubing, knee-boarding, bald eagle-watching... mmmm.

^^huckleberry + almond... still craving this^^
^^can't believe this hooligan leaves in 4 days. :(
^^my dad's one-and-only wooden ski that he still tears it up on^^
 haha love this shot^^
my dad's cooler than your dad.
catchin' frogs^^
^oh that faces this kid makes when he skis :)
