Easter on its way

Easter is on it's way. So why not get some
cute decorations up?

Something fun about being poor college students is finding creative ways to cheer up the home.  I love to craft, and I saw something like this at Tai Pan... so I decided to make it myself. The best part about it, is you can make this for under $5.00.  In fact, most of these things you probably have around the home already...so you're good to go!

You will need 6 balloons (or however many "eggs" you want to make), pages of a magazine or newspaper, acrylic paint, ribbon, and flour/water.

Blow up the balloons just part way so they are still on the small side.  Paint the pages of your magazine with pastel colors.  While you let them dry, prepare the homemade paper mache.

If you Google "paper mache recipes" you'll get 364,000 results. Don't choose anything more complicated than this.

HOMEMADE PAPER MACHE
1 part flour
1 part water
Bring to a rapid boil for three minutes. Then let off heat and stir while cooling.

It's that easy.

Cut your paper into 2-3" strips and dip into paste. Run your fingers down the strip to get any excess off.  Place the paper strips on balloons according how you want them to look. Hang to dry.  I wrapped a string around the tops of the balloons and hung them that way. (Make sure to place some paper towels underneath, cause they'll drip for a while until they dry.)

When all the balloons are done and dry, pop the balloon and make another hole in the top so you can string a long ribbon/string through all the balloons.  I added extra ribbons around the balloons and on the ends of the ribbon to spice it up, but you'll have your finished product in no time.
SO easy and cute.

Here's my final product.

Happy Easter-to-be everyone.
